Major: East Asian Studies and History
Period:June 17th to August 6th, 2013

Hello, my name is Axel Snow, and I was an intern at Nakashima Medical in the summer of 2013. At Harvard I major in East Asian Studies and History with a focus on Japan, so an internship at Nakashima Medical was a wonderful opportunity for me to see up close how a Japanese medical company functions. I enjoyed learning about how artificial joints are designed at Nakashima to fit especially with the needs of its Japanese and other Asian customers across the globe. As a member of the design team, I also worked with CT scans, processed data into 3d models of bones in CAD, and finally analyzed the data to see if newly designed prosthetics would truly fit real patients’ bones. I also helped revise documents in English and taught English lessons every day, which really helped me to get to know my coworkers better. In the future I hope to work with Japan in the US Government or in an internationally based company, and I think that this internship has been an incredible start pursuing those interests.
